Who this is for

Financial services, government, critical infrastructure operators, and consultancies building capability in this space. EU-focused; global coordination when relevant.

Proper Tools supports organizations facing long-lived infrastructure risk — especially epoch rollover events, embedded timing dependencies, and cross-sector coupling where “everyone is competent” but no one has the full map. Hard problems made legible, with deliverables leaders can act on.

Executive & Board Briefings

Tailored briefings that make complex risk legible: rollover timelines, cyber-physical dependencies, regulatory interfaces, and the evolving standards landscape.

Designed for decision-makers who need clear, defensible framing — not technical noise. Deliverable: a shared mental model, a practical risk register outline, and a short set of next-step options.

Facilitation & Convening

Workshop design and facilitation for organizations working through complex infrastructure or coordination challenges — across technical, policy, security, and operational stakeholders.

Best suited to situations where routine meetings stall: misaligned vocabularies, competing incentives, or unclear ownership. Deliverable: structured dialogue, decisions captured, and a durable follow-up plan.

Fractional Advisory

Part-time advisory for leadership teams who need continuity-aware strategy and technical translation without adding headcount.

Typical engagements are 2–4 days per month. Focus areas include prioritization, stakeholder alignment, program shape, and risk governance — with calm, defensible communication up and down the organization.

Advisory for Consultancies & Startups

Strategic advisory for consultancies and startups building offerings in epoch rollover, time security, or cyber resilience.

Non-exclusive and limited to a small number of concurrent clients; we avoid direct conflicts where possible. The goal is to help you build internal capability — without creating long-term dependency.

Expert Witness & Technical Testimony

Neutral technical expert services for legal proceedings involving systemic infrastructure risk, timing dependencies, or rollover-related failures.

Available as a testifying expert, or by referral to a network of qualified specialists. Courtroom-ready, jargon-free, and patient — public science education in an adversarial truth-finding context.

Standards & Policy Alignment

Guidance on how technical rollover risk intersects with NIS2, DORA, the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), and standards work (FIRST, ITU-T, IETF).

Useful when technical teams, compliance, and executive leadership need a shared map and a practical coordination path — including clear division of responsibility and evidence-ready documentation.

Research & Observatory Collaboration

Contribution to research on systemic dependencies, time synchronization, embedded lifecycles, and rollover risk observability.

Best suited for standards bodies, research groups, and public-interest efforts that need applied systems and governance expertise — and work that remains useful outside the news cycle.

Engagement & Rates

Most engagements begin with a brief scoping call, followed by either a one-day briefing, a facilitated working session, or a small fractional advisory block.

Standard engagements are priced at €5,000/day. I name this number deliberately: it is a rate I am comfortable accepting, and I state it upfront to avoid performative negotiation and wasted time.

That said, price is not the only variable. I regularly accept lower rates for engagements that are unusually interesting, consequential, or aligned with public-interest work. If you believe your problem merits that consideration, I’m open to being persuaded.

Paid client work also enables the publication of CC-BY research, open-source tools, and frameworks intended to seed a broader remediation ecosystem. If others can do parts of this work for less than me, that is a feature—not a bug.

As part of kick-starting an engagement, I’m happy to provide our standard Master Services Agreement and NDA for review.

Reference honorarium

For engagements where the client is willing to serve as a named reference (e.g., logo use, short testimonial, or a private reference call), we offer a reference honorarium reflecting the additional long-term value of that contribution.

This is not payment for endorsement; it’s a pricing adjustment recognizing the added value of a reference. Always optional, always discussed explicitly in advance.

Referrals

If someone referred you to Proper Tools, please let us know. We make a point of acknowledging and thanking people who make thoughtful introductions.

Reach out

If you're interested in an engagement (or still unsure whether a fit exists), please reach out with a sentence or two about what you're facing. We'll suggest the smallest useful next step.

Other ways to help

If you’ve read this far and nothing quite fits — but you’d still like to support the work — other support options are available by request. Some of our public-interest work is supported by organizations and individuals who choose to help sustain it.

This isn’t a formal fundraising program. It’s simply an open door for people who’ve found value here and want to help it continue.
